My Purpose. My Time. Brings Personal Value

Enterprise Mobility provides a paid volunteer day each year for team members to use to support a cause or non-profit organisation of their choice. This paid day is a fantastic way for employees to make a real difference in the communities where they live and work. The programme is known as My Purpose. My Time.

One of Enterprise Mobility’s founding value is ‘We strengthen our communities – one neighbourhood at a time’. That is why when this benefit was introduced in 2020, many employees jumped at the chance to use this day within their communities.

Employees across the UK have used this day to support charities and initiatives that are close to their heart, while continuing to support other amazing Enterprise Mobility volunteering and fundraising initiatives alongside.

Big Bocs Bwyd or the ‘Big Box of Food’

An example of how My Purpose. My Time. makes a personal difference is James Goodall's and Sandra White's commitment to Big Bocs Bwyd.

Big Bocs Bwyd is a Welsh organisation with a name that translates to "Big Box of Food" in English. Big Bocs Bwyd aims to promote educational initiatives that enrich children's knowledge of growing, cooking, and understanding food. They also advocate for healthy food choices within communities, fostering food literacy and overall well-being.

Sandra White and James Goodall, who work within Enterprise Mobility in the Southwest UK region, started working with the charity in October 2022. They both lived in Cardiff, which drew them to supporting this local charity.

They encourage employees in Wales to use their My Purpose. My Time. day to help transport and collect food from hubs and then delivering it to schools, something the charity often needs help with.

Last summer, 18 employees also took part in the Royal Welsh Show, a four-day event that Big Bocs Bwyd attended.

Sandra and James currently serve as trustees for the charity, shaping, guiding, and supporting the charity's strategic initiatives. Their responsibilities as trustees include convening monthly meetings to address financial matters and coordinating group volunteering efforts.

James and Sandra are also supporting the charity by mentoring, supporting their application for National Lottery funding.

Vehicle Services Supervisor Shona King tells us about her My Purpose. My Time. day at The Gingerbread Centre, and why this charity has personal meaning for her.

"In February 2024, I used My Purpose. My Time. day to volunteer at a local charity called The Gingerbread Centre. The charity provides accommodation for homeless families, teenage mothers and single pregnant women. They also offer support packages and activity clubs for children.

"I chose The Gingerbread Centre because of a personal link. When I was younger our family had to leave our home due to an abusive situation and we ended up being in touch with someone from The Gingerbread Centre. Having the chance to go back and volunteer after the help that they provided to me and my family has been a really humbling experience.

"I joined up with my local rental Area Managers, Jourdan Russell and Anu Sawhney, and together with their rental branches we collected items to be donated. I went to each branch to collect all the generous donations and was able to tell them more about The Gingerbread Centre and what they do.

"After this, I dropped off the donations at the charity and met the activities coordinator to learn from people that worked there about all the work that they now do. I then helped to stock the pantry with our donations. The pantry was empty when I arrived and fully stocked when I left!

"As the centre is run solely off donations and charity funding it was lovely to play a part in helping them."
